Sorry, but the histogramming is a mess: fixing this is a major TODO on
the development plan. 2D histograms have never been available in the
"LWH" histo package that we are using, though: there has never been a
motivation to have them for any tuning or validation plots. Is the whole
2D histogram needed, or is a profile histogram sufficient?
