As done as I'm going to be: some memory mess still inside, but at least 
it exits cleanly and now I can delete my defunct, unversioned 
micro-branch directory with these singleton overhauls in it. (The rest 
of that version is full of couts trying to work out what the hell is 
going on...)

Want to send it to Anton now? Can you also make a Rivet Trac account for 
him, so that he can report bugs directly onto the tracker? As #1 bug 
reporter he deserves such an accolade!
