[Rivet] Merging aida files with different cross-sections

Hi Elena,

Sorry that you didn't get a response before. With the currently released
versions of Rivet you can only do this approximately. The 2.x release
series will be able to do it properly... we're finally approaching a
first public release of that.

For the approximate merging there is an unofficial script here:
http://rivet.hepforge.org/svn/contrib/aidamerge
This makes an assumption about the sort of histograms that are being
merged: it essentially assumes that they are normalised histograms or
profile histograms, so that the error on each bin will scale as
1/sqrt(height). There is an implicit assumption in this code that the
numbers of events and the process xsec in these files is the same, but
the code is very simple on purpose so that you can edit it to add
special scalings as you need. I hope that helps.
