[Rivet] Rivet 1.8.4 nearly ready / OS X Mavericks

Thanks. I'm inclined to make this 1.8.4 release today, then: gets it out
of the way and should make the experiments happy. Any objections?

Probably we should keep the branch hanging around a little longer, just
in case there is some horrid problem that will mandate a 1.8.5. But once
2.0.1 is out and a few weeks have passed, we'll close the AIDA branch
for good.

Speaking of closing branches: James, can your zip branch be merged into
the trunk (for 2.1) or is there still work to be done on it?
