I definitely think getting them to put the validation plots in the
tarball is an excellent idea and should become our standard submission
procedure. We'll then archive what's supplied forever in the
contrib/preX.Y.Z directories. Could you add some info to the Rivet web
page along these lines, when you have the "machinery" in place?

some validation plots contained in the same tarball.

I will write a cron script that checks daily whether there is a new file.
