I think the pre-arranged Projection system is quite a bad match to this sort of thing, and probably the caching isn't helping much anyway. So in this sort of situation I tend to just use the FastJet tools directly -- since fastjet::PseudoJet and Rivet::Jet are implicitly interchangable these days, it's pretty easy. I also have a low priority to-do on myself to pull more FastJets functionality out of the projection so that it's easier to do "standalone" stuff like this with all the details done the same as in the projection.
