Dear LHAPDF user,

We are pleased to announce the release of version 5.8.0 of LHAPDF. This
can be downloaded as usual from our website:

http://projects.hepforge.org/lhapdf/

or directly at:

########################################################
--enable-pdfsets-LIST option to help with memory problem
########################################################

Each release of LHAPDF has seen an increase in its virtual memory
'footprint' to the point where it is becoming difficult in some
circumstances to use. In the longer term we have plans to re-write
LHAPDF in C++ where we can better control the memory use.

In the meantime to help alleviate this memory problem we have
introduced in this release (5.8.0) the ability to configure and build
LHAPDF to use only specific PDF sets, as chosen by the user. In this way
only the required parts of the program code are used.

The configuration option --enable-pdfsets=LIST does this.

LIST is a comma separated list of PDF sets chosen from the list:

mrst
mrst06
mrst98
mrstqed
cteq
grv
nnpdf
gjr
h1
zeus
h1
hera
alekhin
botje
fermi
hkn
pions
photons

Thus: 'configure --enable-pdfsets=mrst,cteq' will configure the build
with the code to run only the mrst and cteq PDF sets.

A negative value in the list means exclude that PDF set thus:
'configure --enable-pdfsets=-nnpdf,-mrstqed' will build for all the PDF
sets except nnpdf and mrstqed. Note that if both non-signed and -ve
sets are in the list then the -ve ones take precedent.

Note that 'mrst' is all the mrst sets except the nnlo 2006 sets, the 2004
qed sets and the older 1998 sets. 'hera' is the combined zeus/h1 sets.

We hope that this helps in running LHAPDF.

======================================================================

We have also added the JR09VFnnlo PDF sets in this release.

A full list of changes can be seen in the ChangeLog on the LHAPDF web page.

Any problems, as usual send them to lhapdf at projects.hepforge.org
