I think we had the unfortunate case that Rivet's interface header file was 
including Rivet headers that depended on gsl/boost. So if you didn't tell 
Sherpa explicitely where your gsl/boost installation is, it wouldn't find 
those dependencies and thus fail. I have fixed that in Rivet SVN shortly 
after the release, so this problem should not appear in future versions of 
Rivet.
Glad you got it working though.
