[Rivet] xsection in rivet-nopyHannes Jung hannes.jung at cern.chWed Jul 27 10:19:00 BST 2011
Hi Andy ok. The problem is, that the installation works fine, no error message or complaint, but when running it it gives a seg fault (while it works with the nopy version): ----- Rivet 1.5.2b0 running on machine pb-d-128-141-134-229.cern.ch<http://pb-d-128-141-134-229.cern.ch> (i386) zsh: segmentation fault rivet -a MC_GENERIC /tmp/example_out.dat ----- and i have no idea where it comes from.... you remember, i had this kind of problem already last year, this is why I used the nopy version ... so .... since I am not expert, just want to use it,... I am lost... We don't have the resources to maintain a second command line interface, and I don't think it would anyway be a good idea for us to do so... I'm now even tempted to change the name to "rivet-debugging-hack-not-for-production-use" ;) If you really want, you can make your own command-line interface based on the rivet-nopy source, which is *very* simple, but it would be much better to get your installation working properly so that you can use all the rest of the Rivet processing scripts which are written in Python and only work fully if they can import the rivet interface module. The Python interface works on CERN lxplus, on the Grid-deployed SL5 nodes and on all the development systems I've tried. It should work ok on Macs -- we did some debugging that way last year, and our automatic build system continually claims that it works -- although I don't have regular personal experience of that. I'm not sure what's troublesome about the DESY system, but it *should* be possible to make it work, provided that the Python and GCC setup are compatible. It's really a pity, since even with the new version 1.5.2b I am having problems running on macosx with python... so my work-around was using the nopy version, which worked fine.... Is there a hope to have this option included in the future, since it always is a problem with the proper python version, even at desy on linux ... so this could be a workaround solution.... Thanks a lot cheers Hannes On 27.07.2011, at 10:06, Andy Buckley wrote: Hi Hannes, No, there isn't. rivet-nopy is only intended to be a debugging / profiling tool (a simple way to run the Rivet library elements without also getting information about the Python steering layer) which we don't even install. It's not meant to be a functional equivalent to the rivet command. Andy On 27/07/11 08:44, Hannes Jung wrote: Dear Riveties is there a way to set the xsection when using rivet-nopy ?
